I like to think of my art as real flowers, re-imagined. The garden is my muse and most — if not all — of the plant material in each piece was grown on my homestead in Sherwood, Oregon.
I use the traditional slow pressing technique. It’s a test of patience. Three weeks at a minimum. But the flowers, foliage, and fauna that emerge are in their truest form. Completely natural. No dyes, paint or sealants. Just a dab of glue on acid free paper.
Colors change over time, but the beauty in the form remains intact. And just like us, pressed flowers do best out of direct sunlight. My personal collection is kept away from southern windows and the flowers hold up indefinitely.
Archival prints are an exciting option. I am a professional photographer and carefully capture each piece in lifelike detail. Several of the pieces on display are limited-edition prints on professional Kodak Endura Lustre paper. This choice offers state-of-the-art image stability.
I create pieces in several different styles. My signature collection is what you see here today. I also love to pair classic herbarium works with vintage frames. Those are frequently available on Etsy and first shown on Instagram @kindnessroots.
"Painting Me Grey" is a freshly finished meadow-style pressed flower artwork on 19x25" blue-toned gray paper. The art is matted and framed to 22x28" in metal and glass.
The flowers were all gathered in Oregon. You'll find orchid rockrose, cosmos, blue geranium, fern, coral bells, daisy, pincushion, and more.
The three orchid rockrose blossoms are a standout in the piece and are said to represent beauty, resilience, and the triumph of life over adversity.
This original art piece with real plant material is $400 with local pick up. Contact me at angie@kindnessroots.com to inquire. Made-to-order archival prints are also available in two sizes on Etsy.
